logica & fallenstar (kinome) 21

Chapter 21 is available to read here!

This chapter involves discussion of grief and ableism.

Captain: MR-C3.
Captain: Make reports to NOAH on a regular schedule. If we receive your transmissions safely, we'll send a reply. We'll only be able to send a very simple signal, but...
Captain: I promise you, humanity will return home one day. We leave Earth in your care until that time comes.
Cee: Yes sir. Mr Cee will be waiting.

LOGICA & FALLENSTAR, CHAPTER 21: Signal

Nal: Oh hello, are you a traveler?
Cee: No... There are a lot of travelers on this path, so Mr Cee is here to ask the rumors they've heard on their travels.
Nal: Huh... that's unusual.
Cee: Is that a letter?
Nal: Yes! It's from my big brother Sig!
Nal: My brother is an artist! He's soooooo good at playing the flute!
Cee: Neat.

Nal: He plays a golden flute that shines like the stars, and the songs he plays are as airy as birdsong and as lovely as a burbling brook!
Cee: That's pretty impressive.
Nal: I'd love to have him play for you, but five years ago he left home on a journey to polish his craft. It's really too bad.
Cee: (She's enthusiastic.)
Nal: "I'm going to master the ultimate melody!" That's what Sig always used to say. And he said that until he does, he's not coming home.
Cee: Are you lonely?
Nal: A little... But he sends me letters, so I'm okay.
Nal: Mountains that shine red... The end of the rainbow... A flock of over a thousand birds... He always tells me about the sights he's seen.

Nal: I just know my brother will be home someday with his ultimate melody. I can't wait for that day to come!
Nal's Mother: NAAAAAAAAAAAL!
Nal: That's my mom!
Nal: See you later, traveler!
Gatherer: Hey, you. Are you Nal's friend?
Cee: Uh, no... Who are you?
Gatherer: You shouldn't take that girl seriously. She's really dumb.

Gatherer: Well... you have to pity her, though...
Top Hat: Stories about giants, huh...?
Goat: A giant? I don't really know...
Tapir: I've never even heard of something like that before.
Cee: Total failure...

Cee: That was a nice performance.
String Player: Thank you.
Cee: Are there a lot of traveling musicians out there?
String Player: Yeah, journeys are really inspiring. Lots of artists take them.
Harmonica Player: Sometimes people will even give you free food.
Cee: Do any of you know a man who plays the flute?

String Player: A flautist?
Cee: Yeah, he's a young musician who plays a golden flute...
String Player: ......You mean Sig, right?
String Player: He's dead.
Accordion Player: A couple years back there was a ship that sunk in a big storm... They say Sig was on that ship.
Accordion Player: Not many people play that style of flute, so it has to be him.

Cee: He's dead? Then what was that letter...?
Nal's Mother: Nal! Just give it a rest!

Nal's Mother: We got word that Sig died in an accident a full two years ago! Why won't you believe that?!
Nal: I don't believe...? You've got it backwards, Mom.
Nal: I do believe--I believe in Sig!

Nal: Oh!
Nal: You're the traveler from this morning! Did you get to hear any good rumors?
Cee: No, Mr Cee didn't learn anything useful.
Nal: Aw, that's too bad. I'm running away from home 'cause Mom is a pest!
Nal: Everyone's just awful. Saying my brother is dead, that he'll never come home... That's not true at all!

Nal: Sig WILL be home. He still sends me letters!
Nal: The cobalt sea... A waterfall that reaches the heavens... A garden of roses in seven colors... I never get tired of Sig's letters no matter how many times I read them.
Cee: ......That so.

Nal: You aren't calling me stupid or crazy like everyone else.
Cee: Mr Cee has been waiting for a long time too...
Cee: MR-C3 to NOAH, regular contact...

Cee: MR-C3 to NOAH, regular contact... Please respond...
Captain: If we receive your transmissions safely, we'll send a reply.

Cee: That was reckless...
Cee: The auto self-repairs... will be finished after 72 hours of sleep...
Cee: Oh, right... Transmission... Gotta... send it...

Cee: Regular contact... MR-C3 to NOAH... Regul... ntact...

Nal: Oh...
Nal: You must have been lonely for a long time, too.
Cee: Yeah...
Cee: You might be right about that.

Cee: Mr Cee is gathering rumors about the giants. Have you heard anything?
Backpack Traveler: Hmm... Sorry we can't help, but unfortunately...
Cee: Oh well.

Backpack Traveler: Oh, come to think of it, I have a really interesting story to share.
Bushy Traveler: What is it?
Backpack Traveler: I think it was around the beginning of the year? But I met the most amazing traveler.
Backpack Traveler: He was a skilled musician, but even more than that, the song he played itself really echoes in your heart. The most surprising thing was, his arm was a machine!
Bushy Traveler: Wow!

Backpack Traveler: A few years ago he got hurt really badly when he was lost at sea, and they treated him in a faraway land.
Backpack Traveler: Even after he lost his arm, he worked really hard for a long time to learn to use his mechanical one... and eventually he recovered well enough to play the flute just like he used to, so I was really impressed. If you ever meet him, you've got to get him to play for you.
Bushy Traveler: Yeah, I'd love to hear him play!
