elman (kinome) 1

As it's gotten more and more relevant to Kinome's currently-running manga Logica & Fallenstar, which I'm already translating, I've decided to do a translation of its complete, free-to-read sister series Elman too!

You can read part 1 along with this translation here!

This chapter involves discussion/depiction of body horror and existential horror.

Author's Note: Hello, my name is Kinome. Thank you for reading chapter one. This manga is full of goofy characters, but I hope you'll enjoy it regardless. Please regard me kindly!

Story: That planet's the one! This is our last stop for today, right?

Owan: Here we go.

ELMAN
A Zero-Space Outbreak?! My Family Has Vanished Into the Universe! (I)

Story: Oof, this planet's really been pulverized.
Owan: At least it's a little one. Let's hurry up and get it taken care of so we can go home.
Story: Listen to you, talking like it's that easy. (Well, it IS easy, but...)
[sfx: vrmmmrmmrmrmmrmr]
[sfx: PLOP]
[sfx: fluffy fluffy fluff]

[sfx: POP]

Mugica: Heyo! My name's Mugica! Who are you?

Story: I'm Story... I work for the Orion District Public Office of Environmental Organization.

Mugica: Nice to meetcha, Storin! Wow, Orion, huh? For a civil servant, you sure work in the boonies!
Story: You're pretty rude. And who are you calling "Storin"?

Story: Here you go.
Story: Please keep this on until the area stabilizes.
Mugica: Hmm?
Mugica: By the way... where's Marianne?
Story: Huh?
Mugica: Marianne!!! She is!!! My family!!!!!
Story: ...You weren't living here by yourself, Mx Mugica?
Mugica: There are two of us!! Two!!
Story: That's odd... I'm not detecting the order profiles of any other living things in the area...
Mugica: Order what now?

Story: An order profile is the information that makes up matter.
[label: matter]
Zero-energy phenomena causes matter to dissolve.
[labels: particles, order profile]
Story: Without the proper information about what something was before it broke apart--for instance, a person's appearance, personality, and memories--they can't be put back together.
I'm back, babey!
Owan: It's possible this "Marianne" they're talking about isn't a living thing. They mighta just thought their favorite doll was their family or something.
Story: Yikes...
Mugica: MARIANNE IS ALIVE!!!!!!!

Mugica: I have a picture of her right... wha?

Mugica: IT'S GONE!!!! WHY!?!?!??!?!
Story: I mean, of course it is.
Story: Mx Mugica, everything on your planet except for you is still in particle form.
[sfx: empty af....]

Mugica: MY HOUSE IS GONE!!!!!!!!!!! AND MY FARM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Story: I'm going to fix those next, so please be patient.

Mugica: SO YOU'RE SAYING MY HOUSE AND MY PHOTO ARE SOMEWHERE IN THIS MIST?!?!?! CAN YOU REALLY PUT THEM BACK TO NORMAL?!?!?!?!
Story: Yes, this is how it works. It's pretty boring (lol).

Mugica: ib sowwy

Mugica: MINE HOOOOOOOOOOOOUSE
Story: It's safe to take your helmet off now.
Story: This is more than just there not being an order profile... The leftover particle mass is much lower than it should be. Where has Miss Marianne gone?

Story: Did the particles leave the zero space...? Can that actually happen? Hmmm... I'll have to ask my section manager about it...
[sfx: POP]
Mugica: My pendant!!!

Story: So this person...
Story: ...is Miss Marianne...?
