Haigica of the Old Town (Kinome)
Haigica of the Old Town (Furui Machi no Haijika, 古い町のハイジカ) is a 26-page comic Kinome posted on their Twitter, and is a prequel to the Old Town series of drawings they posted from April 5 - 15 which featured Elman and Chaosman interacting with a group of new characters. (I'll link those at the end.)
You can read along in Kinome's own twitter thread. Give it a retweet if you like it!
Content warnings for this comic include: Child abuse, depression, suicidal ideation, disordered eating, vague atmospheric Japan-typical fatmisia, minor body horror, childbirth, vaguely implied reproductive abuse, and alcohol.
This comic is included in ELMAN!
p01-04
[sfx: chirp chirp chirp]
Haigica: (I did it again... I binged on way too much booze and junk food...)
[sfx: bong bong]
Haigica: hyggghghgg... HUP...
Haigica: As I was born as a Gica, I too...
Haigica: ...have spent every day of my life believing that one day, my fated family would appear before me.
Haigica: To explain for those who may not be aware, we Gicas are dreamers by and large, so we all believe in the legend written into our very genes.
Coworkers: Mornin'.
Haigica: The legend says that one day, people who will become our family and need us as much as we need them shall appear to us from the sky.
p05-08
Haigica: Of course, I am no exception. I believed in the legend, and have been waiting all this time for my family to fall from the sky.
Haigica: But it appears I won't be so lucky.
Haigica: I've waited so long my head could touch the heavens...
Haigica: And yet there's no sign of my family appearing.
Haigica: That's why I spend every day drowning my loneliness in beer and depression eating.
Haigica: (I used to cook for myself, but... before I realized what was going on, I fell out of the habit.)
Haigica: At this rate maybe I should just get bigger and bigger until I turn into a Biggica, and split off into so many babies that I disappear...
NOTE: The Gica race reproduces by dividing their bodies. Individuals who have inflated for this purpose are called Biggicas (or Greatgicas). For details, see volume 3 of Logica and Fallenstar (published by Shinchosha).
Haigica: Well... maybe that's not quite suicide.
When I divide into a bunch of new Gicas...
Haigica: Listen up now, kids...
Haigica: Be reasonable about that legend. You're better off proactively trying to find a family by yourselves.
Mini-Haigicas: 'kaaaaaaaaaay
...I shall entrust them with the dream I was never able to have granted.
Haigica: *gasp*
p09-12
Haigica: Just a dream...
Even now, I still think that legend is beautiful.
But, the idea of a family just falling from the sky for you...
In the end, that's simply a mere fairy tale.
BBBBBOING
Haigica: ??!?!?!?!?!
Bystanders: What just happened?! A kid fell from the sky!
Bystanders: Are you okay?!
Bystanders: Somebody call an ambulance!
p13-16
Officer: Thanks to you, that child was miraculously unharmed.
Officer: We're very grateful.
Haigica: Oh, no, of course you're welcome...
Haigica: About... that kid, what's their name?
Officer: His name is Iidzuka Emio-kun.
Haigica: What's going to happen to Emio-kun now?
Officer: He will be sent to an orphanage.
Haigica: Umm... Would you please give me three days?

Haigica: (THERE'S A MOUNTAIN OF THINGS TO DO!)
Haigica: BUT FIRST! I HAVE TO DEAL WITH THIS BODY!

THREE DAYS LATER
Haigica: WOOHOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
Babies: Oooooh! [sfx: applause]
Babies: Okay, off we go to start our lives! Bye-bye! Stay healthy!
Haigica: Yup, good luck out there!
Haigica: Oh, but before you go, I have a favor to ask...
p17-20
[sfx: b-bmp b-bmp b-bmp b-bmp]
[sfx: peek]
Haigica: Okay, Emio-kun.
Haigica: From today forward, this will be your house!
Haigica: I know it's a little bit cramped...
[sfx: rustle]
[sfx: flinch]
Babies: Emio?
Haigica: These two are babies I divided from my body. I had just two of them stay here with me.
Haigica: I have to leave the house for work, and I didn't want you to be lonely.
3-Year-Old Boy Thrown From Window
Mother Arrested
Yesterday, a boy fell from the veranda of a second-floor apartment...
The 19-year-old mother who threw her 3-year-old son was arrested.
Haigica: And so, I was finally granted the family I longed for, but...
Haigica: THE PRESSURE IS UNREAL!!!
Haigica: So this is a family...!
Haigica: He's just a child...
Haigica: He's a LIVING CREATURE!!!
Haigica: I have to work! He can't survive with just love! I'm gonna need money!!
p21-24
Haigica: I'm home.
Babies: Welcome back.
Haigica: How was Emio-kun?
Babies: He's obedient!
Babies: He's a good kid.
Babies: He's not bratty...
Babies: ...and he doesn't throw fits.
Babies: But you know what? He doesn't talk.
Babies: He barely moved all day. He barely ate food, and he doesn't smile.
[sfx: pat]
Haigica: ...I have tomorrow off. Let us all go out together.
Babies: Yaaaaaaay!
Babies: Where should we go? Whee!!!
Haigica: This child has lived a sad life.
Haigica: And, most likely, her life has been pitiable too.
[sfx: sneeeeeeeak...]
Haigica: Oh no you don't. That's for lunch.
Babies: Awww...
Babies: You look good, Emio-kun!
Haigica: What lovely weather.
Haigica: Shall we go to the park?
Babies: Yahoo!
Haigica: Maybe, when this boy grows up... the day will come when he meets her again.
p25-26
Haigica: When that day comes, if he's very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very happy...
Haigica: I want to believe that will heal her soul...
Haigica: And because I believe such a day will surely come eventually, I've decided to live my life beside him.

Chaosman: I-I was so happy I lost control and hugged you....... I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry...
Elman: Aww, you can hug me if you want!
From the Boy's Diary: Apparently Elman and Chaosman are something sort of like siblings, so I said "That explains why you look so much alike" but Chaosman got very angry and said "What do you mean, lowly worthless scum like me looks like Elman?! Fuck you fuck you fuck you this is why I can't stand you people!" But after that Elman told him "Onii-chan, you shouldn't say that" and he turned bright red and went silent. Wow, Elman is sure something.
