lmao i cannot believe you made a dreamwidth account JUST for this?? buddy dont you have ANYTHING better to do with your time in march of christian calendar year 2026 with everything that is going on in the real world right now...
i am not going to re screencap this to highlight a different part of it but im submitting to evidence team cherrys style guide notes on seer for about the zillionth time. * the relevant part is "However, the memory of Radiance lingered (eg [sic] the statue at hallownest’s crown) and soon she began to reappear in dreams and starting [sic] exerting influence. The King and the bugs of Hallownest resisted this memory/power and it started to manifest as the Infection." since you're bringing up the hunter, his notes in the slobbering husk journal entry corroborate this: "The infection that swept through Hallownest so long ago… they say that the harder you struggled against it, the more it consumed you."
furthermore the violent husk entry you're trying to cite actually says, "First [the bugs of Hallownest] fell into deep slumber, then they awoke with broken minds, and then their bodies started to deform…" - this is describing how a case of the infection progresses: first the subject becomes comatose, next the subject begins sleepwalking as a pseudo-zombie, eventually the subject will develop tumor-like growths. we can confirm the hunter's observations in-game via cases of the infection that we do not catch in time to wake the character up like myla and the changes in the forgotten crossroads, etc. i wrote a whole other essay about the infection that i would link here but i do not think that's what you're here for. lmao.
radiance Absolutely weaponized the infection once she realized she could do that, but she would not have found out she could if the pale king had not had his followers stonewall her.
wrt soul master in particular, radiance and the moth tribe seem to have an especial distaste for the snail shamans' magic (see: "shunned power") due to their leaching other people's souls to power it (i dont think the trademark snaman fascination with the void helps) so like. especially given what soul master was using that power to do, i can fully see radiance setting Him Specifically up to self destruct once she had committed herself to diagnosing the pale king with letma (letma people go) and casting lv9 Inflict Tang on the entirety of hallownest (+ splash damage).
honestly i wouldnt say theres enough data either way to determine whether xero attempted to do a luigi of his own volition or whether radiance specifically told him he could have a little regicide as a treat if he wanted (we DO find her begging myla to murk ghost after all. shes capable of it) but tbh. good for him. wish it had ended better for the guy
concerning marmu, nice try, but she is an extremely distinctive species of moth caterpillar. per thistlewind and seer the moth tribe continued to be pacifists after the pale king assimilated them into hallownest, with the most notable adult exception markoth specifically only taking up arms so that he could try to rediscover his people's forgotten past (for which hallownest had him assassinated and the pale king set up a shade barrier to prevent anyone finding him). marmu is a fighter whose job was to defend the portion of greenpath white lady took for her gardens and is described as the area's guardian on her tombstone. there is no plausible explanation for why a moth child is away from her tribe fighting for white lady that makes hallownest look good. especially when we already know that hallownest already enslaves children (see: maggots. if youre a fly or a mantis in a team cherry game you are fucked).
when it comes to good lore analysis you GOTTA keep in mind that there is no such thing as a fully objective source in hollow knight. all sources of information are at best presented from that character's subjective point of view; a lot of hallownest's public signage specifically can be proven to be propaganda by comparing information from other factions + observing the overall world design + information revealed in silksong.
*this screencap is from many years before the wiki heads decided to go full chest "my uncle who works at team cherry says phantom silksong is definitely a cisgender woman. we dont care that the game itself is unclear about this characters gender and we will not cite our supposed sources" but i fully understand if the ick factor is recursive enough you dont trust them. if you want to go datamining to confirm for yourself this note should be attached to seer.
finally i have a recommendation. which is. if you run across takes you disagree with on the internet. theres this amazing browser feature that is called, the "back button", whose location may differ depending on what browser you are using, and whether you are on pc or mobile, but which is usually in a top corner. it will be an arrow that points to the left. if you press this button, the takes you do not like will disappear from before your eyes and you wont have to perceive at them anymore ! wow !! it is less rude than barging onto a complete stranger's fanfiction and essays looking for a fight :)
no subject
